I am going camping for the very first time next weekend. I have never been the outdoorsy type, but I am always willing to try something new…at least once! The idea arose on an evening when I had a friend and her husband over to spend time with my beau and me. They have all had a lot of experience camping and being outdoors in general. At the time, it seemed like a great idea and my friend decided to get the camp site booked before I could change my mind. She knew that if something is already paid for, I will not cancel and risk money being lost!
I’m beginning to understand that outdoorsy activities are great for people who want to create memories with their friends and family but don’t want to break the bank to do it! My friend booked our campsite right next to the beach for a little over $20. The site is near a restroom and there is electricity (although I’m not really sure how that works at a campsite). Luckily, since they are outdoorsy people, they had many of the supplies that we will need already. However, I was told that sleeping bags are only around $10 at Wal-Mart and basic tents are not too expensive.
Of course we will have to bring food and supplies, but even if we were home we would be eating. The worms for fishing will cost a few bucks but, again, nothing major. In all reality, we are going to enjoy a day and a half of swimming, fishing and good company for very little cost.
It remains to be seen how well I will handle roughing it. I’ve never been one to enjoy the heat or the lack of shower or flat irons. But, I can adapt to many different types of situations and my beau enjoys being outside, so I suppose I can try. I am actually looking forward to it!
