I know it’s been quite some time since I have posted a new blog. I was initially trying to take time off so I could finish up my degree and I intended to start right back up. However, I wound up unemployed for a few months, which set me back a lot. The current economy is very frustrating for any job seeker. However, it is especially frustrating for a recent graduate with 10 years of substantial professional experience under her belt.

I’m Back!
Ballin on a Budget
As much as I love to cook, I also love to eat out. For some reason, food just always tastes better when you aren’t the one who prepared it. My son is always pestering me to make him sandwiches and when I point out that since he is twelve years old now he can now make them himself, he always explains that they just taste better when I make them. Yes, I’m a sucker, I know. Anyway, I love to eat out, but I hate to spend a lot of money to eat out. This does not mean that I am limited to McDonald’s for my culinary outings…
New Year’s Eve Festivities
New Year’s Eve is always an exciting time of year. We are saying good-bye to the old year and looking forward to the new. It is an evening of celebration and friendship and it is also a ridiculously expensive evening that, more often than not, doesn’t live up to our high expectations. People spend weeks planning the evening and shopping for the perfect outfit. Babysitters are booked weeks in advance and their rates are tripled for that evening. Clubs, bars and restaurants are far more expensive than they are the rest of the year, but it turns out just like a regular night with the exception of the midnight countdown. So, why not look for less expensive alternatives?
10 Resolutions for a Frugalosopher
We all make new year’s resolutions that we fail to keep. We promise to work out, to diet or to quit smoking. Some of our resolutions are difficult to keep, but saving money is not a difficult endeavor and it is one that can be done little by little. Here are some resolutions you can make to learn to live more frugally.
News…
I have to take yet another break from the blog. Although I will still be posting blogs from time to time, I won’t be posting my regular, every weekday blogs. I am nearly finished with my Bachelor’s degree and I am finding it progressively more challenging to make time for work, school, my son and the blog. Once I can eliminate school from the equation, I know that I can truly dedicate more of my time to my blog. I participate in my commencement on October 1st, but I am not completely finished with my classes until November 14th. Until then, I will post whenever I find the time.
It’s Free!
Getting free stuff is as easy as keeping your eyes and ears open! I have already talked about how great of a tool Facebook is to learn about freebies. The most important thing about finding freebies is to make sure that you share the info. I always try to repost anything that is an incredible deal.
Veggie Stuffed Shells
It is always nice when you can sneak a variety of vegetables into your meal. Especially since the only side vegetable my son will eat is salad. However, if the vegetable is cooked into a meal he doesn’t seem to mind. I don’t necessarily have to hide them in meals, I just have to make sure that they are mixed with enough different things that he doesn’t mind the flavor. This is one of those recipes that he will happily eat without complaining about the vegetables.
Camping?
I am going camping for the very first time next weekend. I have never been the outdoorsy type, but I am always willing to try something new…at least once! The idea arose on an evening when I had a friend and her husband over to spend time with my beau and me. They have all had a lot of experience camping and being outdoors in general. At the time, it seemed like a great idea and my friend decided to get the camp site booked before I could change my mind. She knew that if something is already paid for, I will not cancel and risk money being lost!
